Indian athletes bagged 2 more Gold on the Final day of Athletics Competition in Asian Youth Games. India won 4Gold 2 Silver and 2 Bronze medals in Athletics in the 1st Asian Youth Games and placed 4th in Medal tally while India had a small squad of 12 athletes.

After running a impressive race, Ravi Kumar was thrilled as he won the gold with a timing of 1:55.91s followed by Amir of Iran 1:55.93 and Herath E of Srilanka 1:56.33s.

In the girls’ category of the same event, Namita Kabat had enought time to clinch Gold with a timing of 2:15.55s ahead of Vietnam's CA Thin Than (2:20.43s) and Myint Swe Li (MYA) (2:22.14s).

"I was sure to win Gold in the event and I did it, Now I can sleep well". said Namita after winning Gold medal.

Indian athletes continued with their impressive performance at the Asian Youth Games here on Thursday.
After bagging three medals on Tuesday, they repeated the performance by adding three more to the tally.
Rohit Kumar was the pick among the athletes as he won gold in the Javelin Throw event. His effort of 74.60 meters was better than the National mark of 71.52 which he set at the Junior Nationals in Mysore last year.
Cheng Chao-Tsun (71.97M) and Pakistan's Raheem Khan (60.73M) won the silver and bronze medals respectively.
In Boys 400m Hurdles event Selwyn Jebaraj's time of 54.41seconds fetched him a silver ahead of Kuwait's Karam Yousef (54.80sec). China's Chen Dong gold in 53.19s.
In the girls’ category of the same event, Sushma Mekala clinched bronze in 1:03.44, while Cheng Yafan of China won gold with a time of 1:02.15sec.

Indian Athletes won three medals on the first day of Inaugural Asian Youth Games being held at Singapore.

Indian Athlete Arjun won the first Gold Medal of Ist Asian Youth Games in Discus throw. He threw the Discus to a distance of 58.72 Metres.

"I am happy for a good performance today and could won the Gold Medal in Ist Asian Youth Games for India. Its a good reward for my hard practice sessions." said Arjun.

Rahul Kumar got Silver Medal in 1500m with a time clocking 4:05.01 s while Pooja Varhade got Bronze medal in 1500m race with a time of 4:39.04 S.

Hyderabad 14 June

Athletics Technical Official Seminar was inaugurated by Padmasri P. Gopi Chand in the presence of Maurice Nicholas, Secretary General, Asian Athletics Association, Dr. Kripal Singh, Chairman, Technical Committee (Exams), Shri. C.K.Valson, Chairman Technical Committee (Conduct), here at Balayogi Stadium, Gachibowli , Hyderabad. Shri. Gpoi Chand congratulated the Organizing Committee CWG-2010 for initiating a venture like this for the successful conduct of the Commonwealth Games 2010 at New Delhi and advised the participants to bring in more professionalism in the technical conduct.

About 200 Federation Technical Officials who have cleared the first level of screening are participating in this 5 day seminar cum workshop. These officials would be graded once again according to their efficiency and performance.

The following officials have cleared the first level of screening examination conducted by AFI Technical Examination Committee at Salwan School, New Delhi. The selected candidates from this group will also attend an event oriented seminar at Hyderabad from 14th to 18th June 2009 along with the other Technical officials selected in the first level of screening held in 2007. The candidates are advised to report on 13th June, 2009 at GMC Balayogi Athletics Stadium, Gachibowli, Hyderabad.

Athletics Federation of India during its meeting of experts held on 1st June 2009 at New Delhi has decided to postpone 8th Federation Cup National Senior Athletics Championships due to certain Technical reasons. This Championships was scheduled at Nehru Stadium Chennai from 24th June to 27th June 2009. Fresh date of this meet will be announced later.

Athletics Federation of India gears up for Commonwealth Games 2010.

Delhi 22, May In the view of the Commonwealth Games 2010 and to ensure perfect technical conduct, first Level of screening examination was conducted at Salwan School, New Delhi. In this examination 142 Technical Officials with FTO status participated selected candidates from this group will attened an event oriented seminar at Hyderabad from 14th to 18th June 2009 for the second level examination. After the second level examination the qualified candidates will be attending a high level event management seminar conducted under the supervision of Mr. Bill Baily, Mr. Reg Brandis and Mr. Maurice Nicholas.

Indian team comprises of 38 athletes who will compete in all the three legs of this Prize Money Asian Grand Prix Series 2009.
The performances of the athletes, during this Asian Grand Prix Series will be considered to achieve the qualifying standards for World Championships to be held in Berlin. This time, some of the athletes will also be participating from other continents of the world as this Asian Grand Prix has been made open for participation at world level.

In view of the organisation of Commonwealth Games-2010 at New Delhi, the Athletics Federation of India has planned to select the Technical Officials for the officiating during these Games. The Federation Technical Officials Grading and Screening Examination will be held from 22nd to 24th May, 2009 at Salwan Public School, Rajinder Nagar, New Delhi.

All the Technical Officials who have passed FTO Examination and are below 50 years of age are eligible to appear in this examination. The candidates, who have applied to the federation by 11th May, 2009 will be appearing for the examination. The office has received around 150 applications.

Om Prakash Singh, Shot Put 22yrs old
Om Prakash was born on 4th Jan 1987. Currently living in Gurgaon near Delhi. Giant Om Prakash shifted to athletics from Basketball in 2003 and since then he has shown amazing improvements in the Shot Put. His best performance in Shot put is 19.20m ( outdoor) and 19.01m (Indoor). His ultimate aim is to win medal in London 2012 Olympics.
